BUYING PROCESS

BUYING PROCESS

Blackland’s litters are carefully selected, screened and planned prior to breeding. Our aim is to benefit our clients and our kennel. We keep back puppies from every litter we produce to help us create the best future generations possible. Litters are not produced for us to sell the puppies; we want to enhance our kennel and we cannot keep every puppy. Therefore, we offer our remaining puppies to our clients. This is a passion project, not an income producer, and we carefully select where are puppies go and who qualifies.

We have astutely hand selected our dogs from kennels throughout the country to be a part of our program. In order to produce top quality, you must start with top quality. Health, structure, movement, longevity are all important traits; not to mention that traditional temperament we work so hard to maintain and encourage in our Corsos.

Ownership Requirements

Do you have what it takes to own a Cane Corso? We require a phone interview as part of are screening process, PRIOR to submittal of an application and/or deposit. If you are not approved, you will not receive a puppy from us. Here are some of our requirements…

  • The Cane Corso is a guardian, working breed. They are dominant. They will step up to the plate when the occasion calls for it. They may be aggressive, bossy, and stubborn. A potential owner needs to understand how to deal with this type of behavior properly.
  • They are not for the first-time dog owner. No exceptions.
  • Stern corrections may be needed at times
  • This breed is smart and have great problem solving skills. They require mental stimulation as well as physical.
  • This breed needs ample room to play, run and explore. A 6-foot-high, sturdy, fenced in backyard is mandatory.
  • Crate training as a puppy. They will also need to be contained appropriately to prevent them from getting into trouble when you are not home.
  • Our puppies are not sold to families who live in apartments. Renters are approved on a case by case basis with explicit written permission from a landlord.
  • Extensive training and socialization during all phases of growth. The Corso doesn’t fully mature mentally or physically for several years- this is typically longer for males.
  • Puppy and obedience classes are mandatory. Training is highly encouraged throughout the lifespan of your dog.
  • Cane Corsos are extremely devoted to their families. They bond tightly with their people.
  • Families who work long hours will not do well with this breed.
  • Needs to be the only puppy in the home until that dog reaches maturity. We will never place 2 males together or litter mates. Please don’t ask.
  • This breed requires a commitment from you for the duration of its life. They are beyond loyal.
  • You must be in a established place in your life.
  • We love our Veterans, but if you are active duty please wait until you are no longer at risk of deployment
  • A Cane Corso should never be left unattended with children. Even as puppies. Both children and puppies need to learn proper interaction skills with one another and this requires adult supervision at all times.
  • Temperament should be the only reason you want a Cane Corso. We do not sell for color.
  • This breed is not cheap to own. Training, food, supplies, veterinary care, emergencies, etc.

Yes, this list is long. We are as serious as our dogs. This is to protect you and our beloved breed. Homes must be qualified to own a Cane Corso.

If all of the above sounds rational and reasonable to you, please contact us for more information on how to begin the process of owning a dog from Blackland Cane Corso.
